Download MAMP from here. Follow standard installation instructions till you get this screen
Go to the Applications folder and find the directory called MAMP. Inside this directory you will find a folder called htdocs. Create a folder here with the name of your website. Any site that you will want to host goes in here.
We now need to host a wordpress site. This can be done by first downloading wordpress here.
After downloading wordpress we need to move all the files inside the wordpress folder into the website folder you created inside htdocs of MAMP folder.
We are now ready to launch our Wordpress backend. Just head over to MAMP and click on Start server. This should automatically open the "Welcome to MAMP" page.
Now, click on my website. You will be given a list of options to navigate to, click on the folder that you created in step 2.
This should take you to the Wordpress setup page. Click on continue. Now you will be asked to setup your database. So let's get started on that!
To setup your database, go to back to the "Welcome to MAMP" page. Here, click on tools and then click on PHPMYADMIN in the dropdown. You will now be taken to the phpMyAdmin page.
Let's create our Database! Click on "New" as shown in the menu on the left.
Now, give your database a name and click on create.
Now we need to add a user to let Wordpress access the database. Go to "privileges" tab on the current screen and then click on "Add user account".
In this screen enter a user name, leave the host name as it is and enter a password. After you've entered the password click on "Check All" in the Global privileges section. Click on the go button(bottom right) to complete the process. Make sure to note it down somewhere because we will be using it in the next step.
You've created a user that for the database. Now, let's use it!
Let's go back to the Wordpress setup page and fill in the database details of the database we just created.
